In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
“And We have not sent you, [O Muhammad], except as a mercy to the worlds.” (21:107)
Let these divine words descend gently into the depths of your heart and resonate there, for they are the foundation upon which Madinah stands. Every breath drawn in that blessed city, every footfall upon the sacred earth that once bore the imprint of his ﷺ blessed feet, every tear that flows before the Rawdah: all are luminous manifestations of that universal mercy, still alive, still reaching, still calling.
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ declared:
“None of you truly believes until I am more beloved to him than his own child, his father, and all of mankind combined.” (Sahih al-Bukhari)
Madinah is the greatest examiner of this love. It peels away every layer of pretence. You arrive weary and restless from the world, yet the moment your gaze falls upon the Green Dome, your soul recognises its eternal abode. This is Madinatun Nabi, the City of the Prophet ﷺ. It throbs only for those whose hearts are truly bonded with his blessed heart, drawing them with a force no worldly power can resist.
The Prophet ﷺ himself supplicated:
“O Allah, make Madinah as beloved to us as You made Makkah beloved, or even more beloved.” (Sahih al-Bukhari 1889)
When the beloved of Allah ﷺ supplicates for a city, that du’a becomes eternal. This is why, after fourteen hundred years, millions still weep uncontrollably at the first sight of its minarets. It is not the architecture. It is his ﷺ living presence that calls the souls home.
Nothing in this world occurs except by the will of Allah. Yet Allah has honoured His beloved ﷺ by making his intercession a means for the affairs of His servants. To reach Allah is impossible without the love of His beloved ﷺ. The door to divine acceptance, nearness, and forgiveness is opened through him, and without him the path remains veiled.
“Say, [O Muhammad]: If you love Allah, then follow me; Allah will love you…” (03:31)
The scholars of the heart teach us: when a soul is summoned to Madinah, it is not by chance, wealth, or planning alone. It is because the Prophet ﷺ has turned his merciful gaze towards that soul and interceded for it before Allah.
He ﷺ said: “Between my house and my minbar is a garden from the gardens of Paradise, and my minbar is upon my pond.” (Sahih al-Bukhari 1196)
You did not merely book a flight. Your name was inscribed in the Preserved Tablet long before your creation. Allah drew you. The Prophet ﷺ called you. Your very presence in Madinah is proof that you have been chosen by the mercy of the Mercy of all the Worlds ﷺ.
Pause. Reflect. Let it settle.
While the world slumbers in heedlessness, you walk upon the very ground where Jibril (peace be upon him) descended with revelation.
While hearts remain distracted by illusion, you sit in the sanctuary where the Qur’an was revealed, verse by verse, to the heart of the Best of Creation ﷺ.
While nations argue and scroll through their distractions, you stand and send salam, and it is received and returned by the one who is alive in his blessed grave with a life that transcends our understanding.
“Indeed, Allah and His angels send blessings upon the Prophet. O you who believe, ask Allah to confer blessing upon him and salute him with abundant peace.” (33:56)
When you stand at the Rawdah and whisper “Assalamu alaika ya Rasulullah…” he ﷺ hears you. And he ﷺ responds. This is not poetry. This is not sentiment. This is established reality confirmed by authentic hadith. The Prophet ﷺ said:
“Whoever sends blessings upon me, Allah returns my soul to me so that I may return his salam.” (Sunan Abu Dawud 2041)
If this reality does not move you, what will?
No amount of wealth, planning, or worldly status can bring a soul to Madinah unless the Prophet ﷺ himself desires it. The scholars and awliya have long affirmed: “The journey to Madinah is unlike any other. It is written in the Preserved Tablet, requested by the Prophet ﷺ, and granted by Allah.”
“And if they, when they wronged themselves, had come to you [O Muhammad] and sought forgiveness of Allah, and the Messenger had asked forgiveness for them, they would have found Allah Relenting and Merciful.” (04:64)
The gates of Madinah are tied to the gates of his ﷺ intercession. When he ﷺ turns his attention towards a servant, obstacles dissolve, hearts soften, and paths open in ways the mind cannot explain.
The visit is a gift. But the gift demands a response.
Immerse yourself in Salawat, day and night. The more you send Salawat, the stronger your connection becomes. Every blessing upon him ﷺ strengthens the sacred bond between your soul and his.
“Whoever sends blessings upon me once, Allah sends blessings upon him ten times.” (Sunan an-Nasa’i 1297)
Beg Allah with utmost humility. “Ya Allah, include us among those whom Your Beloved ﷺ wishes to see.”
Purify your intention. Go only for him ﷺ, with a heart full of longing, not for spectacle or show. Let your niyyah be singular: to stand before his blessed resting place and say, with every atom of your being, that you love him.
Carry the transformation home. The softness Madinah places in your heart is a mercy from Allah. Guard it. Protect it. Do not allow the noise of the world to erode what the sacred city built within you. Do not let that softness die at the airport.
As you walk these blessed streets and your heart begins to soften, know that this very comprehension, this opening of the chest, is itself a sign of Allah’s love for you. The Prophet ﷺ said:
“If Allah wants to do good for somebody, He makes him comprehend the Religion. Allah is the Giver and I am Al-Qasim (the distributor), and this Muslim nation will remain victorious over their opponents till Allah’s Order comes and they will still be victorious.” (Sahih al-Bukhari 3116)
If your heart is moved by the mention of his name ﷺ, if your eyes well up at the thought of his city, if your soul leans towards Madinah, then know: Allah has already chosen to do good for you. He has opened your heart. He has given you comprehension. And through His beloved ﷺ, He is distributing to you the most precious of all gifts: love.
Receive it. Guard it. Never let it go.
O Allah, grant us the beautiful fate of becoming constant lovers who return, time after time, to the doorstep of Your belovedﷺ, until our souls are forever intoxicated by the sacred aroma of Madinah. Aameen.
